We will promote family friendly policies aiming to strengthen, promote and rebuild the place of this pillar of our society.

Article 16 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights 1948 says:

  1. Men and women of full age, without any limitation due to race, nationality or religion, have the right to marry and to found a family. They are entitled to equal rights as to marriage, during marriage and at its dissolution.
  2. Marriage shall be entered into only with the free and full consent of the intending spouses.
  3. The family is the natural and fundamental group unit of society and is entitled to protection by society and the State.

We honour the place of commitment and marriage in our society, and the importance that this stability has in the lives of our children. We would work tirelessly on rebuilding the broken image of marriage and ensure help is available to assist committed couples work through relationship pressures.

We would call for the repeal of the so-called “anti-smacking legislation’ as 87% of the public demanded, and review benefits/taxation on families to strengthen their financial position for the right reasons (e.g. parental leave), removing current discrimination against married couples and those who value investing time into the raising of their children.

Except in exceptional circumstances, Parental Notification in regards to all medical care and procedures for children aged 16 and under should be compulsory.

We would also, among a number of other initiatives, form an Independent CYFs Complaint Authority to hold CYFs accountable.

Full details on the policy will be released in the coming months.
